Will There Ever Be Justice?

Ferguson, Missouri has been at the hub of talk due to the fatal shooting of a young man named Michael Brown. Many people have poured out into the streets and are protesting this new case of police brutality. There are too many cases in the news about police brutality and the inability for young African American males to feel safe around authority. In theory, the police are suppose to protect and serve the people, but what does one do when they are being targeted by the people they are suppose to trust? This causes tension to build between the people and authority. The case in Ferguson is just 1 of many to come if there is not a change. Without a reform for all police officers nationwide, there will be no change. On the other hand, the protesters of Missouri are not bringing about justice by looting, and causing havoc in the streets. This is not what justice is. Justice is not acquired by bringing about violence; it can be done peacefully and with manner. I am not condoning the police use of force, but both sides should respect the rights and laws that exist. To many, the black race is seen as being savages and thugs, and the riots are not doing anything to help clear that stereotype. We know that things in Ferguson are bad but then again the media has a way on playing with stereotypes and statics to help push their views. Many Celebrities like Spike Lee, Janelle Monae, and Eddie Griffin have used social media as a platform to express the injustice done is Ferguson. My favorite is by rapper J. Cole who went to Ferguson and gave a informal speech to the crowd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6CyWL28UNM (there is harsh language)

The obstacles that Clyde Ross experienced in the article “The Case for Reparations” shows some of the struggles that African Americans have faced. America as a country has progressed since then, but the common problem seems to the law’s ability to be manipulated and the inability it has to protect the people. Clyde Ross had always had it tough and he was set up for failure since the start. This is also the case today. Many minorities feel as though society expects them to fail and have set hard obstacles in the way to ensure this. The struggle that exists in America is very over looked and it is time for these issues to be addressed.
